My path into healthy home design is grounded in both building science and real-world experience.

My interest in how buildings truly function began early in my career while serving as a career firefighter on a truck company, where I saw firsthand how construction methods, materials, and building failures directly affect human safety and health. That experience sparked a lasting curiosity about how buildings perform under stress — and how design choices matter far beyond aesthetics.

After leaving the fire service, I transitioned into residential construction and spent the next decade as a licensed contractor, working with multiple builders on new homes and completing full-scope remodels from frame to finish. Exteriors, interiors, systems, and materials — I developed a comprehensive, hands-on understanding of how homes are built and how they age over time.

My shift toward holistic construction and Building Biology was catalyzed by personal experience. After experiencing work-related health effects from toxic material exposure, including formaldehyde, and later navigating mold and radon concerns in my own home, it became clear that conventional construction often overlooks the long-term health of occupants.

In response, I enrolled with the Institute of Building Biology to develop specialized expertise in healthy construction and indoor environmental quality. Today, I combine practical construction knowledge, Building Biology–informed principles, and a measured, science based way to help families create low-toxin, low-EMF, high-performing homes.

Through Elevate Eco Institute our work focuses on identifying environmental stressors, prioritizing human health, and guiding clients toward homes that act as a sanctuary for their families.
